Planning a family vacation or welcoming guests? When children are in new environments or routines change, the risk of accidental poisoning rises. A few simple steps can keep your trip safe and worry-free.
Store all medications, cosmetics, mouthwash, insect repellent, and sunscreen in their original containers. Never travel with loose pills in unmarked boxes or bags—these aren’t child-resistant and make it hard to identify what’s inside if there’s an accident.
Lock personal items in your suitcase and keep the suitcase in your vehicle’s trunk while traveling.
Pack outlet covers or plugs for open electrical sockets if you’re staying somewhere unfamiliar.
Treat every new place—whether it’s a hotel, cabin, or a friend’s house—like your own when it comes to child safety. Do a quick sweep and move these items out of reach:
Cleaning products
Grill supplies
Ashtrays
Hazardous appliances
Sharp objects
Always keep medications in their original child-resistant containers.
Avoid leaving bags or personal belongings where kids can reach them.
Do a safety sweep when you arrive anywhere new.
Store medications and personal products up high, out of sight and reach. Children can easily get into items left on floors, luggage racks, or counters.
Remind visitors and family members about safe storage, too. Purses, suitcases, and prescription medicines should have child-resistant caps and be kept out of children’s reach. Offer guests a secure spot for their personal items during their stay.
Always keep medications in their original child-resistant containers.
Avoid leaving bags or personal belongings where kids can reach them.
Do a safety sweep when you arrive anywhere new.
