The Iowa Poison Control Center (IPCC) has a day/evening position for an RN to join our team as a Specialist in Poison Information. The IPCC serves the state of Iowa and is located in Sioux City.
Position Overview: Day/evening shift with mix of 8A-8P, 8-4 and 11A-11P and 3-11. Every fourth weekend.
Provides immediate assessment, triage, case management advice and follow-up for emergency and informational telephone calls received by the IPCC from the general public and health care providers. Clinical supervision and back-up support provided by IPCC Medical Director.
Qualifications/Experience: Graduate of accredited school of nursing with a BA, BS or BSN degree. Prior experience in critical care or emergency department (min 3-5 years). Call center environment requiring strong communication and telephone skills. Requires PC proficiency and computer data entry skills. Current Iowa RN License or current RN license in Compact State of Residence.
After meeting eligibility requirements (handling 2,000 human exposure calls and employed by a poison center for at least one year), SPI is required to become a Certified Specialist in Poison Information (successfully completing certification examination administered by the American Association of Poison Control Centers).
